Winter break is coming up for many children, and you are probably wondering where to take your kids to help them get into the holiday spirit. In Orange County, we are so fortunate that we have a wide variety of winter activities for kids that will keep adults entertained for hours…
Ice skating at Irvine Spectrum is a great family activity and a nice way to work in some exercise after indulging on holiday sweets. The rink is fairly small by ice skating standards, so you do not need to worry about your children tiring too quickly. Ice scooters are available for children who do not have experience with skating, so parents can rest easy knowing that children will not hurt themselves in a painful fall.
Growing up, my family purchased tickets to see productions of A Christmas Carol every year. One of my favorite performances was at South Coast Repertory, because the small stage created an intimate atmosphere, and as a child, I was enchanted by the actors and sets. Performances are held until the 27th, and I highly recommend that you purchase tickets.
In addition to A Christmas Carol, I also grew up attending annual performances of The Nutcracker. I still enjoy the ballet, and I delight in the magic of the story, tutus, and Tchaikovsky’s music. Irvine Barclay Theatre performs The Nutcracker each year featuring dancers from American Ballet Theatre, one of the premier dance companies in the country. Moreover, the corps de ballet is comprised of Festival Ballet dancers who often go on to earn scholarships to the most competitive dance companies in the world.
