5 Uses For Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is on everyone’s minds these days, and its multiple uses are the talk of the town. After testing out tens of applications, we have narrowed down the extensive list of its versatility to the top five uses for this wonder product.

1. Cooking, of course!

For any recipe that requires butter, margarine, or vegetable oil, replace with coconut oil since it does not produce toxic by-products when heated to high temperatures. Coconut oil’s moderate smoke point makes it ideal for use in the oven, and refined coconut oil will not create a taste or aroma reminiscent of coconuts. Incorporating coconut oil in ethnic dishes (e.g. Indian and Thai) pulls vegetables and spices together, fostering an unidentifiable hint of deliciousness, while its presence in desserts suddenly transforms the confections into ambrosia. We fondly reflect on a morning when vegetable oil was nowhere to be found in our cupboards and coconut oil was used as a last resort to complete a pancake breakfast for two. We do not believe that we were fully alive until that first bite.

2. Let’s Face It

Coconut oil is a gentle substance that is perfect for a beauty regimen that focuses on the face. Have you ever had difficulty removing that miraculous mascara that makes your lashes look like a mink coat when perfectly applied but a Mohammed Ali opponent when you try to wash it off? Gently dab a bit of coconut oil on that stubborn makeup and wipe away with a warm washcloth. When you have cleared away the makeup, whip up a facemask with coconut oil and honey and leave on your face for 15 minutes before washing with lukewarm water. End your facial cleansing by gently rubbing coconut oil into your skin to preserve moisture. When you wake up in the morning, your skin will be soft and radiant.

3. Body Beauty

In addition to your face and taste buds, your body can also benefit from coconut oil. Soften your skin using a body scrub of coconut oil, vitamin E, and brown sugar. Combine 1 cup of brown sugar, ½ cup coconut oil, and ½ tablespoon of vitamin E oil to create a body scrub certain to make your body glow. Once you have finished polishing your body, use coconut oil as a shaving cream – apply to the desired area, shave, and marvel in the smoothness of your skin.

4. Hair Care

Your locks will never be the same once you start using coconut oil to enhance the health and appearance of one of your greatest features. We all love that straight from the salon look, so how do you get it at home? To increase shine, bounce, and softness, liquefy coconut oil and apply to your hair. Allowing your hair to deep condition for at least 1 hour before shampooing as normal allows the oil to penetrate the hair shaft, which locks in moisture. While deep conditioning once a week should cut down on frizz, you can use a small amount of coconut oil as a heat styler and frizz fighter. While your hair is still wet, apply a tiny amount to your hair and blow dry as usual. As long as you use sparingly, your hair will be smooth and shiny all day.

5. Hand It Off

Keep your hands supple and soft by applying coconut oil just before bed. Concentrate on rubbing the oil into your cuticles to strengthen nails and hasten growth. Daily use prevents nails from becoming brittle and hands from becoming weathered.
